Gina Seashore has been a part of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church team since 2006 and became the church’s music director in 2010.
As music director and pianist, Seashore selects music based on weekly themes for Sunday services, directs the SVLC Adult Choir and the Shepherd’s Bells Handbell Ensemble, facilitates weekly chapel time for the ABC Barn preschool with songs and lessons, and organizes special services and concerts throughout the year (including seasonal events such as Christmas and Easter).
Seashore is passionate about community music and believes that the most important part of her job is to use music to inspire growth, transformation and connection.
In addition to her work at SVLC, she teaches piano and music theory to children and adult learners, directs an intergenerational community choir, facilitates “stress busting” drum circles, and is San Diego’s Civic Carillonist at Balboa Park.
As an avid explorer, learner, and traveler, she often combines travel with music. Most recently, Seashore accompanied a choir in Cuba during a choir exchange organized by the American Choral Directors Association. She also created a two-week music program for 40 children during an international arts festival in Xucun, China, using some of the techniques and methods learned during her time with “Musicians Without Borders” in the Netherlands. She is most influenced by instructors who try to make music accessible to the masses – notably Duncan Lorien and Alice Parker.
When she is not playing and directing community music and going on travel adventures, Seashore loves to hike and work in her garden.
She feels blessed to work for an organization where creativity is encouraged and staff and congregation extend a warm welcome to everyone who walks through the door.
